New Year's Resolution

It's the last day of 2010, can you believe it? What an exciting year it has been! This year I learnt a lot, made new friends (both online and off) and accomplished many things that I am proud of. I am looking forward to 2011 and can't wait to see what it has in store for me. I am still working on my new year's resolutions, meanwhile, I do like some resolutions made by these little guys. Owl flossing is a funny image. No? What are your Goals and resolutions for 2010?

Chris Haughton: Owl Rug

I just read a very interesting post at Chris Haughton's blog on this beautiful owl carpet which is made in collaboration with low-income men and women of Nepal trained in carpet weaving at Kumbeshwar Technical School. To read more on the project or to order the rug go to Chris's blog.

Gwen Ramsay: Portraits

Gwen Ramsay recently contacted me and introduced me to her amazing art work. Gwen is a London based artist who has been honored with number of awards and featured in several publications. She makes amazing portraits focusing mainly on 19th and 20th century immigrants to Canada. She uses immigrants' photographs as inspiration for her work and surrounds the subject with wildlife and nature "to create depictions that are both realistic and magical."

Her current series of portraits uses photographs of Canadian women immigrants with owls. Artist's Statement: "Surrounded by owls that are both tame and wonderfully wild, owls are symbolic of the ways in which animals exist in contemporary society. Animals are at once representative of idyllic nature and at the same time a threat to be controlled. An almost mythical creature, owls are becoming ever rarer as their habitats are threatened." Gwen can be contacted through her website for inquiries about her paintings and prints.

Beautiful decoration by Georgianna Lane of handmade crochet snowflakes (hanging from the ceiling), candles from Peru, delicate lace tablecloth and a German blown glass owl ornament. Doesn't this room feel like as if you have drifted to a magical land?

Nathalie Lete: Homewares

Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I'd like to start our new week here with Nathalie Lete's new and exclusive range of home wares with lot of owls. That owl cushion with the spider web, by far, is my special favorite. It's embellished with intricate beading, hand embroidery and a combination of different fabrics making each one as unique as her artwork. Available at Newspaper Taxi and Corner Store.

I couldn't stop myself from sharing this picture of Nathalie with her owl products. Aren't those plates on the wall simply gorgeous!

Watch Nathalie painting on walls and windows of Usagi pour toi (H.P.France) a fashion store in Tokyo.

Happy Holidays + Cupcakes!

Claire of French For Cupcake made these holiday cupcakes for the Most Wanted Yule-Blog Bake challenge and won! (no surprise, right?). She decorated the peppermint and chocolate flavored cupcakes with handmade Christmas tree, reindeer, candy cane, snowflakes and owl crafted out of fondant, food coloring and edible glitter. Just like Claire, I love glitter too! I agree it's so very Christmas-y! With this, I wish you and yours a very sweet and fun filled holidays and thank you for your support this year!

Marga Marina

Marga Marina is a brand owned by Tine Pagenberg an illustrator living in Germany. She makes rubber stamps, pillows, brooches, postcards and tees. I am particularly in love with the Nachteule stamp set which consists of total of 5 stamps - moth, feather, Moon, stars and owl. She has online stores on Etsy (currently closed) and DaWanda. In the process of tarnslating her website, I learnt a few words in German. Want to learn with me? "Viel Glück" means good luck, "Alles Liebe" means all is love and "Nachteule" means night owl. Did I translate correctly?
