Shoko Teruyama

Shoko Teruyama's breath-taking handbuilt earthenware is a result of a long process which begins with creating molds and then carving, shaving of the clay until the final beautiful shape is achieved. Her pottery is inspired by her childhood memories of her home and scared places decorated with ceremonial objects. Her work is usually decorated with twisting vine patterns and birds. "Birds appear throughout my work to create focal points. Some birds swim in the motion of slip and fly around the vine patterns. Others are walking or sitting in thought. To me, the birds represent my sense of freedom."

Shoko’s next event is in Penland Gallery, Penland, NC from July 12 through September 19. For more information visit her website.

Don't you love the illustrations and the color palette of these covers? These beautiful pillow covers feature Zosienka's original drawings. You can see her entire textile range here or visit her blog for a closer look at her illustrations.

Owl Cake

Let's start our day with something sweet. How adorable is this owl cake! Notice the black eyed pea used for eyes, Halloween candy for nose and thinly sliced almonds for making feathers. I like the simple shape of the cake and easy to find decorations.

Fashion Journal

I love the dark and mysterious styling in these photos. These photographs are the result of collaboration between Emily Abay and Bec Winnel on a feature about singer Bertie Blackman for Fashion Journal. The photographs were first shot by Emily and then Bec who is a graphic designer "drew the animals and put them on top of 3 photos." (I really thought that those birds and the cats were real.) The inspiration for the images came from Bertie’s song Byrds of Prey, Black Cats and White Owl.

Niki Jones

Niki Jones is a newly launched textile company popular for its ethnic prints and exquisite designs inspired by Uzbek textile. Niki, the creative director and the owner started the company when she couldn't find what she wanted to buy online. Her furniture, bed linens and cushions are admired by many and have been featured on number of blogs.

It's possible that you already have seen her beautiful and vibrant products. But, have you seen owls in her work yet? I did not until today, when I visited Print & Pattern blog. Marie Perkins (aka Bowie Style) author of the blog, took these photos at heals autumn winter press show featuring Niki's collection. Some of these items are online at heals and some will be available later. Aren't those owl dolls just adorable? They definitely made it to my list!

Sleepy Owl Hooks and Money Box

Spotted these sleeping owl hooks and money box at Barnvanligt and loving them! All of us who have been around kids know that wall hooks are more than just a practical place to organize your child's stuff. But I can see even an adult enjoying these hooks to hang their scarf or a hat. And, doesn't that money box look perfect to hold all the change you are tired of carrying around in your purse?

Andrea Smith

Andrea Smith is a Sydney based illustrator whose work can be described as bold, whimsical and nostalgic. I adore her collages which are skillfully and meticulously done using different textured paper and vintage and new fabric. The artist on her work: "I love the simplicity of one single colour juxtaposed with complex and intricate designs."

Suzy Ultman Letterpress Recipe Cards

I love Suzy Ultman's illustrations, and these new recipe cards and tags are just as sweet. May be it's a sign that I start my own box of recipes. Yes, I don't own a recipe box. I like the idea of having handwritten recipes alphabetically arranged in a cozy recipe box, but I have never really worked on the idea. All my favorites are either stored on my computer (makes swapping easy) or in a small notebook that's sitting on my kitchen shelf. Do you own a recipe box?
