Mister Finch

Mister Finch is a self-taught artist who lives in Leeds in Yorkshire, UK. He makes the most unusual textile insect and animal sculptures using recycled textile. The primary subject matter of his work is inspired by nature. He is fascinated by flowers, insects, owls and birds, as well as their extraordinary nests and behavior.

Artist's statement: "Most of my pieces use recycled materials, not only as an ethical statement, but I believe they add more authenticity and charm. A story sewn in, woven in. Velvet curtains from an old hotel, a threadbare wedding dress and a vintage apron become birds and beasts, looking for new owners and adventures to have."

If you want to take a break from your day and spend sometime in the magical world filled with creatures that seem to belong in a fairy tale world then you must visit Finch's gallery

George Nelson Zoo Timers by Vitra

George Nelson was a well-known graphic designer who was born in 1908 in Hartford, Connecticut, studied architecture at Yale University. He worked as a Director of Design for the Herman Miller furniture company and designed some of the most iconic furniture of the 20th century.

Zoo Timers was a series of children's clocks originally released in 1960s and re-released by Vitra. These clocks are silk-screened lacquered wood with metal hands and quartz movement. The colorful clocks inspired by animal kingdom are perfect for kids' room or to add a little whimsy to any room.

I picked out the above shown four designs Omar the owl, Elihu the elephant, Talulah the Toucan, Fernando the fish. Make sure you check out other fun designs here.

Elephantantrum: Gillian Shields

Elephantantrum is debut picture book by Cally Johnson-Isaacs written by Gillian Shields and published by Hodder Children's Books.

Cally studied illustration and graphic design, and since graduating she worked in the children's design industry. She spent six years as an in-house artist for Hallmark greeting-cards before she decided to be a freelance illustrator. Her long time dream to publish a children's book came true with her book Elephantantrum

The story goes like this: "Ellie has everything, but she wants more. She wants an elephant. And she won't eat or sleep or brush her hair until she gets one! But when she finally gets her wish, the elephant decides to teach Ellie a thing or two about manners!"

The front cover of the book will make you want to pick it up and take a peak inside. Cally sent me a few images from the book which has some lovely owl graphics. To learn more about the characters get yourself a copy now from here.
