Ceramics by Gemma Orkin

Gemma Orkin has been a ceramic artist for 15 years and is well known for her delightful drawings of South African flora and fauna on bowls and vases. She describes her work as "happy and uncomplicated" inspired by nature, beautiful shapes and delicate lines. She uses simple, organic shapes and pale creamy backgrounds to enhance the boldness of the designs.

"Birds and flowers have the most intense beautiful combinations and juxtapositions of color. It kind of makes my heart sing and I try and translate this in my work."

She has worked with West Elm in a collaboration to create a series of serving bowls and hand-painted ceramic tiles that can be found here. To see more of her pieces or to know details on how to order go to her website.
