Anne-Lise Koehler: Paper Mache Sculptures

Birds and Owls from her Exhibition at Museum of Pont-a-Mousson

Anne-Lise Koehler is an artist from France who makes paper mache sculptures inspired by flora and fauna ranging from owls to insects to reptiles. She begins her piece with two pieces of wire, one bend to form beak, neck, back and tail of the bird, and the other wire twisted into the shape of legs. She is not only specific about the material of the paper she uses for her models but the text that'll show on the final pieces.

Each sculpture is a gradual process of pasting layer onto layer with sufficient drying time to make sure the glue is completely dry to the touch before the next layer is added. Some sculptures are painted with acrylic paints and some are left bare. Her sculptures could take anywhere from several weeks to several months or even years to complete. You can see more of her work on her website and if you like, follow her on facebook for new work.
