Pablo Picasso and Owls

Pablo Ruiz y Picasso, known as Pablo Picasso is a name that I think many people have heard of before. He was a genius painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright born in Spain in 1881 and moved to France where he spent most of his adult life.

Did you know he had a pet owl? Picasso adopted an injured owl given to him by a friend who later lived with Picasso in his studio. The owl motif was featured in many of his paintings and sculptures in different materials. "Symbols of wisdom, imagination, and mortality, Picasso’s owls represent the artist’s creative output, and his adoration is evident." His masterpieces are sought-after by collectors all over the world and sold at astonishingly high bids.

The above shown owl vases and the owl plates below are truly a delight depicting owl with distinguished characteristics.
