Seth Fitts

Seth Fitts is a U.S. artist who is currently living in Georgia. He graduated in 2003 from the University of West GA  with a BFA specializing in Painting. He has participated in both solo and group exhibitions across the U.S. including New York City, Atlanta-Castleberry Hill, Douglas, Michigan, and South Hamilton, Massachusetts.

The birds, animals, trees painted in muted color scheme is the recurring subject matter in his work and he shares with Issuu "There is a symbolism in most of my works and I try to relate the symbols so that they support each other in the message. The birds, for example, are symbols of the soul or spirit...color also plays a role in the symbolism of my work. The color chosen are often used to support the meaning and feeling of the work." The Watchers - Owl Inspired Cabin

"The Watchers" is an owl cabin located on the Rives Arcins in Bordeaux, France. Designed by Zebra3/Buy-Sellf, the exterior is beautiful timber and the interior is geometric shapes and angles which allows a panoramic view of the breath-taking surroundings and star gazing from the strategically placed beds below the "predator's eyes".

The cabin was inspired by the night owls that nest in the area and constructed as part of the Noise Initiative to promote the practice of hiking and enjoying the open outdoors. The best part is, it's completely free to live in one of these owl cabins! Anyone who wants to take a retreat and soak in the nature can book this cabin at no cost at all. If you live in France then this seems like a place you would want to look into for a short break away from the city life. For more information and details on making a reservation click here.

Book: Owl Babies by Martin Waddell

It's been a while since I posted a full feature on a book but I am super excited about the one I am sharing with you here today. Owl Babies by Martin Waddell is a children's picture book which was first published in 1975. The plot is really simple, it's a story of three baby owls who wake up all worried when they don't see their mom who left for hunting in the night. This gentle, sweet tale of baby owls who fear if their mom will come back home is illustrated so-well by Patrick Benson. He did a marvelous job in making every page of the book a delight.

The story takes place in the night, a apt setting for the nocturnal beings who are primarily active in the night. The text and the images are illustrated in light yellow, green and turquoise colors which makes everything pop against the dark textured background. The characters are all realistic with distinctive personalities. You feel emotional when the white baby owls are anxious in the absence of their mom and rejoice with them when they are skipping in joy upon the mom's return.

It's an adorable book you'll love to read as much as your kids will love to hear. It's available in many formats, you can order a hard copy or download it now for a bedtime story from here.

Tim McEachern - Bird Carver

Tim McEachern is a bird carver and sculptor from New Hampshire. He carves these amazing, one-of-a-kind 3 dimensional birds out of a wood block and hand paints them himself. His pieces is a result of lot of love and several hours of painstaking hard work, sometimes thousand and more of large birds.

"It starts with extensive research, in the field and in the library, to determine the exact dimensions and infinite details of each species. Along with this, it is important to understand the life of each bird; its behaviors, its habitat, and the changes that occur to the bird from season to season. After becoming an expert on that species, the actual carving process takes place..." - the artist shares.

You can learn about him and his work from his website Nature's Wings. To view his birds that have been sold and updates on his latest birds you can follow him on Facebook.

Pablo Picasso and Owls

Pablo Ruiz y Picasso, known as Pablo Picasso is a name that I think many people have heard of before. He was a genius painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright born in Spain in 1881 and moved to France where he spent most of his adult life.

Did you know he had a pet owl? Picasso adopted an injured owl given to him by a friend who later lived with Picasso in his studio. The owl motif was featured in many of his paintings and sculptures in different materials. "Symbols of wisdom, imagination, and mortality, Picasso’s owls represent the artist’s creative output, and his adoration is evident." His masterpieces are sought-after by collectors all over the world and sold at astonishingly high bids.

The above shown owl vases and the owl plates below are truly a delight depicting owl with distinguished characteristics.
