70 Feet Mural of Burrowing Owls In Arizona

Teresa Dendy painted this wonderful burrowing owl mural in Phoenix, Arizona that's 70 feet long and 10 feet tall. Her mural features burrowing owls in their natural surroundings teaching people about their diet and habitat. Mural displays facts like they tilt heads to get better view of an object, eat sandsnakes, and sometimes live in man-made things like drainage pipes.

Teresa wrote, "My daughter and I helped relocate burrowing owls through an Audubon Society program. It has an over 90% success rate and we got to see the chicks. In honor of this program, the lovely dedicated people at Audubon, and these wonderful birds, I painted a huge burrowing owl mural along the Salt River in Phoenix. This is only part of the mural. I don't have a camera that captures all 70 feet of it." Visit the Naturalist's Notebook for more pictures of the mural and information.

Hari and Deepti Paper Cut Lightboxes

Harikrishanan Panicker & Deepti Nair are artist couple originally from India who moved to Denver. Hari & Deepti create intricate paper cut light boxes to build fascinating narratives. Every piece consists of multiple layers of cut watercolor paper installed inside a shadow box and backlit with an LED light strips bringing the story scene to life.

They believe “Paper is brutal in its simplicity as a medium. It demands the attention of the artist while it provides the softness they need to mold it in to something beautiful. It is playful, light, colorless and colorful. It is minimal and intricate. It reflects light, creates depth and illusions in a way that it takes the artist through a journey with limitless possibilities.”

They were recently invited by the United Nations to contribute to the art series symbolizing the “Agenda for Humanity” for the "World Humanitarian Summit". Their work is available through Black Book Gallery. Take a closer look at their work in the short video below.
