Emily Uchytil is a Baltimore based oil painter. She studied painting, illustration, and art history at the Hartford Art School in Connecticut and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2006. In the beginning of her career, she painted room scenes with colorful patterns overlapping human figures. Currently, she is working on a series which is a collection of insects, birds and animal portraits painted on vintage wallpaper. The wallpaper used as a canvas creates a wonderful contrast to the painted subject. Her work is inspired by her love for ecology, entomology, and patterns.
"I remove natural subjects from their native habitats and place them into an inherently human space; positioned as if they are posing for a portrait session in front of decorative, man-made wallpaper. My hope is to inspire people to celebrate the beautiful life forms around us and their significant role in our lives" via.
