Old Brushes Brought Back to Life with Felted Animals by The Gentleman Felter

Simon Brown also known as The Gentleman Felter is a needle felt artist from a small village on the Northumbrian coast in the UK. He creates these amazing scenes combining hand felted animals and old brushes. His sculptures are incredibly life like that will make you do a double take to notice that what looks like grass or meadows is actually brush bristles!

"I find old, beaten up, heavily used brushes that nobody would look twice at and bring them back to life with tiny animals stabbed to life with wool, creating whimsical pieces filled with life, curiosity, and danger."

Thread Painter Emily Tull Creates Portraits With Amazing Shading

These wonderful embroidered animal portraits are by Kent based artist Emily Tull. She is a self proclaimed "thread painter" who uses needle instead of paint to create extraordinary portraits inspired by wildlife, especially British species. Her embroideries have lovely shading and textures created with cross hatching, weaving over and under of different color threads. She uses varied sizes of stitches to form fur and feathers. Each embroidery seems to be drawn with long and short strokes of pencil colors.

She has exhibited in several solo and group shows since 1998 all around the world. She has won a Kent Creative Award for Visual Art (non digital), and has been a finalist in the Winter Pride Awards, Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize, and selected for the Royal Academy Summer Show, Mall Galleries. You can find her originals available for purchase and cards based on her originals in her online store.
