Karen L Howard is a mixed-media artist and a whittler who was introduced to the art of wood carving by her grandma when she was just a little girl. She dedicated herself to the craft full time when she had to spend all her time at home taking care of her husband who got injured in a car accident. She picked up a knife and started to carve but this time she didn't stop. She creates amazingly unique sculptures combining her original hand carved wood pieces that are perched and nested on top on charming vintage tins.
She received a Master Folk Art Grant from the San Joaquin Art Council and James C. Irving Foundation. She has shared her knowledge with many by giving talks to art groups, taught kids, given private lessons, and has shown her work in many shows. She lives on the Northern California coast where she has a gallery in downtown Ferndale for last 10 years. She works from her home studio on the whimsical creatures that are available on her online store.
