Karen Nicol is an embroidery and mixed media textile artist based in UK specializing in beading and hand embroidery. She works in gallery, fashion and interiors for her London based design and production studio.
As a child the artist was influenced by her mother and sister who were both embroiderers. She initially wanted to something in fine art but it was the diversity of textile for Karen that made her choose her career in that direction. She did a BA (Hons) specializing in embroidery at Manchester Metropolitan University and then earned a MA degree at the Royal College of Art.
Her collection features hand drawn animals decorated with embellishments that range from jewels, fringes and sequin. She has worked in collaboration with many designers including Alexander McQueen, John Rocha and Matthew Williamson, Givenchy and Chanel. Also, she has created interior embroidery for her clients such as the Designers Guild, Anthropologie, the King of Qatar and the Pope. Her embroidery pieces have been exhibited in several exhibitions, fairs and shows around the world.
