Janet Brome is a mixed media artist who grew up in San Diego and now lives in Virginia. She gained a major degree in art and has studied at The Maryland College of Art and Design, The Corcoran College of Art, and The Art League in Virginia. Since 2000 she has been dedicated completely to her artwork.
She creates massive sculptures using metal screen and paint. "I am intrigued by metal screen and what it does when manipulated." She cuts, twists, shapes and layers the metal screen into owls, herons, rooster, vulture, birds and chicks etc. She captures the spirit of the subjects she has chosen to depict.
She has been awarded several grants including The Front Royal Women's Resource Center and The Marion Park Lewis Foundation for the Arts. She is a member of the Blue Ridge Arts Council , the Washington Sculptors Group, and is one of a group of Virginia artists known as The Six Pack. Janet has taught art at Lord Fairfax Community College, the regional Governor's School for the Arts, and many in local studios. Her work can be seen at various locations including Blue Spiral 1 Gallery in Asheville, NC, the R.H. Ballard Gallery in Washington, VA., the Meghan Candler Gallery in Vero Brach, FL, and The Cottage Curator in Sperryville, VA.
