Sydney Hanson is an illustrator from Minnesota. Her adorable characters will take you on a trip to the world overloaded with cuteness. She draws all kinds of doe eyed animals from cute bat family to fluffy owl to lovable spider. She picks those animals that are generally considered creepy and transforms them into cute creatures that you would want to squeeze.
In 2011, when the artist moved to Los Angeles she worked with animation companies including Nickelodeon and Disney Interactive. Till her mid 20s she was not sure if she wanted to pursue illustration as a full-time career. She tried many other art mediums, such as 3D modelling and texture painting until she found out that it's illustration she is most comfortable with. You can find more of her work on Instagram - Sydwiki.
Oh noooo! Why would your title suggest that these creatures are "creepy". Not one of them is in real life. Owls? Mice? Raccoons? They all have different kinds of animal personalities but creepy is definitely not one of them. Owls are peaceful and watchful. Mice are naughty chewing on every thing and some people don't like them but they're not creepy. And raccoon is mischievous and curious. Well, okay, the spider maybe. And that looks like a jumping spider and those suckers have cute big false eyes on their body but they scare the heck out of me when they jump quickly and then I can't find them. Remember words have power. Please don't perpetuate cultural beliefs or misguided societal beliefs about innocent creatures. If you think about it, really, humans are the only ones that have the potential to be creepy. And they are many times. :l
ReplyDeletecomme c'est doux et rempli de poésie merci bon week end ♥
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, The title has the word 'creepy' based on people's general perception towards certain animals. During halloween, it's the owls, and bats that you get to see everywhere because of their association with the darkness and evil. My Owl Barn is my personal blog, in real life I run an animal rescue centre in India where I have all sorts of animals including cats, pigs, goats, sheep and more. I didn't mean to categorize them as 'creepy' and not adorable. If that were the case then I would have never invested over 8 years of my life running this blog dedicated to owls ;) I love all the animals, I guess I used the word creepy to emphasize the talent of the artist who makes the animals who are considered creepy or scary into huggable creatures. English is not my native language, maybe I was didn't do a great job at expressing my thoughts. I'll try better next time :)
