Karen L Howard is a third generation wood carving artist from Phoenix, Arizona. She was introduced to the carving tools by her grandmother when she was only 9 years old. Karen completely dedicated herself to wood-carving when her husband met with an accident and she was stuck at home. She got interested in Waterfowl and began to sculpt ducks, geese, swans, and quail for professional competitions.
The artist is currently carving a range of characters for the trick and treat collection. Pumpkin heads, owls, ravens, and bats are all one-of-a-kind that are hand carved and painted by the artist before they are attached to a vintage tin.
Karen received a Master Folk Art Grant from the James C Irvine Foundation and San Joaquin Arts Council. She has spoken to different art groups and other organizations, taught 5th grade classes, taught half-way house classes, given private lessons, and have participated in way too many shows. She now carves from her home studio on the Northern California coast. You can find her halloween themed characters along with other whimsical creatures in her online store.
